Edwin Frost was born in Kennett in 1891,(Newmarket Q1-1891 3bB:537) baptised in Kennett St Nicholas on 8th March 1891. He was the son of Aaron and Malinda FROST (née BROWN).

1891 census...Aged 2 months, he was in Kennett with his father Aaron FROST [37] shepherd born in Hengrave; his mother Malinda [31] born in Freckenham; sisters Mabel [6], Emily [4] and Ellen [3], also a 'relative' Bessie TOLWORTHY [12] born Freckenham. All the children were born in Kennett

1901 census...Aged 10, he was in Kennett with his parents, sister Ellen and brother Arthur Harold [5] born Kennett.

1911 census...Aged 20, a farm labourer, he was in Barton Mills with his parents and brother Arthur ( a shepherds page).

His recorded connection with Herringswell seems to be from the entry on CWGC which places his mother at Herringswell. The pension card has her at Croft Cottages, Herringswell.


Enlisted in Newmarket.
The 11th Suffolk moved back to reserve trenches at Boeschepe on the 19th April 1918 having had nearly 500 casualties in the battles of the Lys.They had 28 killed on the 19th April. George Russell from Moulton was killed the same day and is buried in the same cemetery, some distance for the rest of their pals in Suffolk Cemetery, Erquinghem-Lys

One of the most interesting and charming cemeteries, but beware, if you do ignore the no vehicles sign (yes, we did,)
it is exceedingly hard to turn round in the narrow lane. It does have quite a few steps down as well.
